Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged blood vessels near the skin’s surface. They develop when one-way valves weaken and stop working correctly (chronic venous insufficiency). This causes blood to pool, making the swollen and distended veins familiar in many people’s legs.

Spring

Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual Warfare is the Christian concept that fights against the work of preternatural evil forces. It is based on the biblical belief that there are spirits (demons) who interfere in human affairs. It also includes the idea that believers are at war with evil forces and must actively seek God’s power to resist and overthrow them.

Until Jesus returns or calls you home, many battles will be in your life. These battles are often called “spiritual warfare.” Satan will try to stop you from giving your heart completely to Jesus. He will use people, circumstances, things and doubt in your mind to try to steal your faith.

Living a Life Led by the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God himself residing in us. It sets us apart as children of God and allows us to be led by him. The apostle Paul describes how, in the Old Testament, God would come and go from the people, empowering them for service but not necessarily staying with them. Jesus changed all that by revealing to his disciples that the Holy Spirit would indwell them, always with them.

When you live a life led by the Holy Spirit, you’ll notice gentle but firm directives from him. For example, he may prompt you to turn off a TV show, or he may lead you to call someone to share the Gospel with them. He’ll even speak to you about your greatest needs and desires.

Spiritual Direction is a relationship in which a person helps another attend to the presence and call of God in their lives. It is not counselling, friendship, mentoring or teaching but the commitment to diligently listen for and with a directee on their spiritual journey.

The director is trained to put aside distractions and their agenda to fully listen on multiple planes to their Direction. They are also trained to help the directee discern how the Spirit works in their life and how they might move closer to Christ.

While some religious orders and ordained ministers traditionally have a spiritual director, more lay people than ever before seek this companioning ministry. They seek hope and need a place to process their spiritual experiences and life decisions. They long to find more intimacy with the Lord and are overwhelmed by life’s demands. It can be especially true of Christian leaders, both laity and clergy.
